For passing a course you are required to get 20% marks overall in all items like assignments, discussions, midterm etc and at least 20% in final exam.

 

 

 

Minimum Passing Marks:-

 

In order to complete a course successfully, a student required to obtain at least 40% marks (expect MS(CS) program) provided he/she obtains at least 20% marks separately in semester work (including marks obtained for Midterm, quizzes, assignments, and class discussions) and final examination.

20% Rule for passing an Exam

There is requirement of passing a subject that one student should be consistent in his studies through out. Therefore you are required to get 20% marks in rest of the items like assignments, midterm, discussions etc and at least 20% in final exam. This will make you eligible to pass a subject and then if you secure marks more than 40% overall while fulfilling the 20% criteria first then you would be considered as pass. Marks distribution:

Punjab University and Virtual University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding which agrees that both would share airtime in their FM and TV channels, respectively.

The MoU signing ceremony was held at Committee Room of Vice Chancellor's office in which PU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran, Advisor Virtual University Professor Dr Naveed Malik, Managing Director VU Tajdar Alam, Director External Linkages Maria I Maldonado, Principal PUCIT Professor Dr Mansoor Sarwar, Director Institute of Communication Studies Professor Dr Ahsan Akhter Naz, Assistant Professor Amir Bajwa and others were present on the occasion.

According to the MoU, now PU's news, academic programmes, documentaries, etc, will be aired on Virtual University's TV channel and Virtual University will also utilise airtime of PU's FM 104.6. On the occasion, Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran said that Punjab University and Virtual University both would benefit from each other's experiences which would strengthen higher education in country. Dr Naveed Malik said that Virtual University is benefiting from Punjab University and Dr Mansoor Sarwar also played his role in course development. Tajdar Alam said that there would be no charges on airtime sharing which would be beneficial for both of the universities.

                                                       PRACTICAL LAW  (IBADAT)

Ibadaat is the plural of the Arabic word Ibadaat, which is derived from “Abd” meaning a servant and slave. Thus the meaning of ibadaat is servitude and slavery. Almighty Allah says in the Holy Quran:

 

“I created the jinn and human kind-only that they might worship Me.” (Surah Al-Zariyat: 56)

 

This clearly means that the purpose of creation of mankind and jinns is that they devote themselves to the worship of Almighty Allah.

 

The requisites which constitute together ‘Ibadat’ are:

1. Fidelity to Allah.

2. Obedience to Allah; and

3. Respect and reverence for Allah.

 

Therefore, what Almighty Allah has said in the verse quoted above actually means that He created these two species “so that they will be faithful only to Allah and to no other being, that they will follow the commandments of Allah only, that they will not listen to the order of anybody else against Him, and will bow their heads in respect and reverence only to Him and to none else. These three things have been described by Almighty Allah in the comprehensive term: ‘Ibadat’. This is what is meant by all those verses in which Allah has commanded that ‘Ibadat’ be rendered to Him. The gist of the teachings of our Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) and of all the Prophets (p.b.u.h.) sent by Allah before him, is

 

“You worship none save Him.” (Surah Yusuf: 40)

 

Which means that there is only one Sovereign to Whom you must be faithful, and that Sovereign is Almighty Allah, that there is one law which you should obey and that is the law of Allah and there is only One Being who should be worshipped and that Being is Almighty Allah.

The term Ibadat carries a wide meaning in Islam. It means to obey the laws of Allah at every step of life; to act in all matters in conformity with the mode laid down by Almighty Allah; to distinguish between Halal (lawful) and Haram (forbidden); and to abstain from lying, back-biting, slandering and passing sarcastic remarks, and like vices.

The fundamental and obligatory, ‘Ibadaat’ are included in the five Pillars of Islam. They are Salat (prayer) Saum (fasting) Hajj, and Zakat. The aim of these Ibadaat is in the reality to prepare a Muslim for that big Ibadat which he has to perform throughout his life in all conditions. Salat reminds us five times a day that we are slaves of Almighty Allah and to Him alone is due our servitude. Zakat repeatedly brings home to us the truth that the money we have earned is a gift of Almighty Allah and that we should not spend it on corporeal urges only, but render what is due to our Creator. Hajj makes a great impression of love and majesty of Allah on our hearts; if once this impression gets rooted, its effect will never abate during the whole life. Fasting is a source of piety and enables a man to acquire a pious life.

 

Ibn Umar reported that Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said, “Islam is built on five things, the bearing of witness that there is no god but Allah and that Mohammad is the messenger of Allah and that the keeping up of prayer and the payment of Zakat and the pilgrimage and fasting in Ramadan.”

 

It has been reported in Hadith-I-Jabrael that Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said that Islam is to witness that there is no god except Almighty Allah and that Mohammad is His messenger and that you should offer Prayer, pay zakat, keep fast and perform Hajj of the Holy Ka’aba, if you can afford.

Certainly there be, that delight in giddiness, and count it a bondage to fix a belief; affecting free-will in thinking, as well as in acting. And though the sects of philosophers of that kind be gone, yet there remain certain discoursing wits, which are of the same veins, though there be not so much blood in them, as was in those of the ancients. But it is not only the difficulty and labor, which men take in finding out of truth , nor again, that when it is found, it imposeth upon men's thoughts, that doth bring lies in favor; but a natural, though corrupt love, of the lie  itself. One of the later school of the Grecians, examineth the matter, and is at a stand, to think what should be in it, that men should love lies; where neither they make for pleasure, as with poets, nor for advantage, as with the merchant; but for the lie's sake. But I cannot tell; this same truth, is a naked, and open day-light, that doth not show the masks, and mummeries, and triumphs, of the world, half so stately and daintily as candle-lights. Truth may perhaps come to the price of a pearl, that showeth best by day; but it will not rise to the price of a diamond, or carbuncle, that showeth best in varied lights. A mixture of a lie doth ever add pleasure. Doth any man doubt, that if there were taken out of men's minds, vain opinions, flattering hopes, false valuations , imaginations as one would, and the like, but it would leave the minds, of a number of men, poor shrunken things, full of melancholy and indisposition, and unpleasing to themselves?

But howsoever these things are thus in men's depraved judgments, and affections, yet truth, which only doth judge itself, teacheth that the inquiry of truth, which is the love-making, or wooing of it, the knowledge of truth, which is the presence of it, and the belief of truth, which is the enjoying of it, is the sovereign good of human nature. The first creature of God, in the works of the days, was the light of the sense; the last, was the light of reason; and his sabbath work ever since, is the illumination of his Spirit. First he breathed light, upon the face of the matter or chaos; then he breathed light, into the face of man; and still he breatheth and inspireth light, into the face of his chosen. The poet, that beautified the sect, that was otherwise inferior to the rest, saith yet excellently well: It is a pleasure, to stand upon the shore , and to see ships tossed upon the sea; a pleasure, to stand in the window of a castle, and to see a battle, and the adventures thereof below: but no pleasure is comparable to the standing upon the vantage ground of truth  (a hill not to be commanded, and where the air is always clear and serene), and to see the errors, and wanderings, and mists, and tempests, in the vale below; so always that this prospect be with pity, and not with swelling, or pride.
